What’s different about Westport Bike Rentals?

We are the only beach bike rental & tour business in Fairfield County, CT. We deliver your beach cruiser to you- with helmet, basket, lock & map- for the entire day. Or, sign up for a ride with The Bike Lady and we’ll show you the prettiest views in the area and mix in a few hidden gems and fun facts in your 3-4 hour tour. You’ll explore beaches, preserves, and hidden paths that even the locals don’t know about.

We offer biking tours. That means you should expect to be biking about 75-80% of the time. Remember our bikes are single speed with a lower gear ratio. In other words, they are easier to pedal than your average beach bike (and the saddle is a lot more comfortable too).  You will encounter a few hills. It’s ok to get off your bike and walk it on the sidewalk.  In fact, any place where you feel uncomfortable (hill or intersection), get off your bike and walk it in the designated crosswalk or sidewalk. In general, riding your bike on the sidewalk is not legal. Ride in the direction of traffic and always follow the all the traffic rules.

Our tours are for people who want to get outside, explore and get a great workout in the process. Remember, it’s not how far or fast you go…it’s about enjoying your biking experience.

While we’re a tour company and like to have fun, we’re also a business. The Bike Lady has a background in running fitness centers before starting this business. We ensure that you’ll be treated professionally before, during, and after your tour.

How easy or difficult are your rides?

Our rides are all around 10-15 miles round trip. The longer routes tend to be flatter. In order to enjoy our bikes, you should be able to do a ride of that length that includes hills. We’ve taken riders of all age groups on our tours, so it’s more about your level of physical comfort than about your age. If you are unsure of your fitness level, feel free to contact us to see if our rides will be a good fit for you.

What’s the minimum/maximum number of people that you will take on a tour?

We require a minimum of 2 people on a tour. If you are a single person looking to book, we can accommodate you if a tour is already scheduled for a given date. We can also accommodate you if you are willing to pay for two spots on a tour. We limit our rides to 8 riders as that is usually the number of bikes that can get through a green traffic light together.

Where do your rides start?

Our tours start at different points throughout the towns where we ride. To see our specific Meet Up Locations for each tour, please refer to the “Where We Roll” page. All of our tours are loops, so they start and end in the same location.

Can I ride my own bike on your tour?

Yes, you can bring your own bike. You will receive a $10 discount. Remember, our price includes The Bike Lady’s time, insurance and other business costs (like our map).

What is your cancellation policy?

We provide a full refund to all guests who cancel with at least 48 hours notice. Please refer to our Terms & Conditions page for specifics.

Do you bike rain or shine i.e. can I get a refund if it’s raining?

We will bike in the rain if you want to bike in the rain. Please refer to our Terms & Conditions page for specifics.

Do I tip my guide?

Tipping is customary in the U.S. service industry and is an important component of guides’ compensation. The tip amount is at your discretion, but as a rough guide, consider giving 10-15%.

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable bright-colored clothing and closed-toe shoes for your ride– we’ll be biking for 3-4 hours. Please wear clothes that you can get a little bit dirty as we may encounter dirt, sand, or puddles on the roads. Check out everything you need on the “Easy Breezy Day” page. Remember to put sunblock  in your bag!

Should I bring water?

Yes, riders are responsible for their own water.

Are there bathrooms on the tour?

Yes there are public bathrooms available on all of our tours.

Can I bring my kids?

Our tours are geared for people around age 13 and up. The bikes fit people on average from 4’1” to 6′ 2″. We do not have child bicycle seats.  If you are riding your own bicycle and have your own child bicycle seat, then yes, you can bring your child. Please consider if your child is up to a 3-4 hour bike ride previous to booking the tour.
